A mild shock awaits anyone reaching the top of the fell on a first visit , especialy in mist, for there is a spectral weirdness about the two highest cairns. The stones support an elabrate superstructure of iron fence post and railings which, having served thier original mission, now act as a adorment that has a nightmarish quaility.
